Morphine Calculator Embedded in PDMP Launched as Tool to Fight Opioid Over-Prescription in West Virginia

video-image-pdmp-morphine-calculatorIn an attempt to reduce the state’s opioid use by 25%, West Virginia’s Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has introduced a morphine calculator explaining, “This cutting edge technology is going to give prescribers and dispensers the true potency of patient’s existing medications.” Embedded in the state’s prescription database, the calculator uses a formula to analyze all of the opioid drugs prescribed to a patient. The calculator then converts the dosage amounts to a standard and comparable measurement.
