Buprenorphine Trainings Scheduled in Western NC for Prescribers and Clinical Staff on February 16 or June 26, 2017

November 23rd, 2016

The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is taking an innovative approach to buprenorphine training in NC. MAHEC is offering buprenorphine waiver training to prescribers, while concurrently offering companion training for other providers and office staff so they are better equipped to successfully implement buprenorphine treatment.

Prescribers: To obtain the waiver to prescribe, providers are required to take 8 hours of training. This training will use the half-and-half format, 3.75 hours of on-your-own-training combined with 4.25 hours of face-to-face training with an instructor.

Non Prescribers: One consistently cited barrier preventing OBOT expansion is lack of adequate clinical support given the additional needs for patient monitoring. Successful Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) requires a team based approach just like treatment for other chronic diseases. MAHEC is offering an amazing companion program to increase the comfort level and expertise of the healthcare team by outlining a team approach and recommendations for implementation of Buprenorphine Office Based Opioid Treatment.
